  • Infosys becomes the first large software services firm in India to allow its employees to take on freelance work.
  • The company’s decision to recognise and enable gig work is a step forward, and it may even set a trend, as a larger debate about moonlighting and employee rights rages on in the IT industry and other white-collar work sectors.
  • According to an email sent to employees, “any employee who wishes to take up gig work may do so, with the prior consent of their manager and BP-HR, and in their personal time, for establishments that do not compete with Infosys or Infosys’ clients.”
  • When contacted, Infosys declined to comment. If new information becomes available, this story will be updated.
