Major smartphone makers have recently received samples of Micron Technology’s low-power dual data rate 5X (LPDDR5X) prototype, which is based on a 5th-generation 10-nm (1b or 12-nm to 13-nm) process.
The number of bits stored per area has increased by 35%, while power efficiency has increased by 15%, according to Micron, who withheld further details on the new product’s characteristics.
SK Hynix, Micron, and Samsung Electronics jointly hold more than 90% of the global DRAM market. Samsung Electronics led the market in the second quarter, according to market research firm Omdia, with a 43.3 percent share, followed by SK Hynix and Micron with 28.1 percent and 23.6 percent, respectively.
