719 people detained for GST evasion totaling 55,575 cr.

  • Over 700 people have been arrested for inflicting losses to the exchequer, an official said Thursday.
  • Directorate General of GST Intelligence officials found 22,300 fraudulent GST identification numbers (GSTIN) (DGGI).
  • On November 9, 2020, the government initiated a nationwide special drive against unscrupulous organisations for fraudulently claiming and passing on Input Tax Credit (ITC) by generating fake/bogus invoices (GST).
  • In two years of the special drive, GST/ITC fraud of 55,575 crore was identified, and 719 people were detained, including 20 CA/CS professionals.
