Air India Express may benefit from AirAsia India merger.

  • Air India announced Wednesday that AirAsia India and Air India Express will merge by 2023 after an operational evaluation.
  • Tata group-owned Air India has also signed arrangements to own 100% of AirAsia India. Tata Sons and Air Asia Investment Ltd. own the airline. AirAsia owns 16.33% and Tata Sons 83.67.
  • The merger, expected by 2023, will create an Air India group low-cost carrier. According to an announcement, the merged entity would be called Air India Express.
