Google and Microsoft announce sustainable energy data centre pacts.

  • Google and Microsoft have both agreed to use renewable energy in their data centres to reduce their IT operations’ carbon footprint.
  • Microsoft announced PPAs to supply its Irish data centres with 900 MW of renewable energy.
  • Statkraft and Ireland’s Energia Group are two of Microsoft’s renewable energy suppliers, according to various reports.
  • Google said the new agreements will help it run its UK headquarters and cloud regions on carbon-free electricity by 2030.
