Since 2019, 500,000 people in the UK have quit their jobs because of a long-term illness: ONS

  • According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), about 5,00,000 more persons who have left the labour market in Britain since 2019 now do so because of a chronic disease or mental health issues.
  • The number of persons out of work due to long-term illness has increased by 3,63,000 since early 2020, according to the ONS.
  • This surge in long-term illness began before the COVID-19 epidemic.
