Domestic electronics manufacturing up 4x to Rs 8.22 lakh cr in FY23 : IT Ministry

  1. Over the last decade, domestic electronics manufacturing in India has witnessed remarkable growth, increasing more than fourfold from Rs 1,80,454 crore (USD 29.8 billion) in FY 2013-14 to Rs 8,22,350 crore (USD 102 billion) in FY 2022-23.
  2. It is projected to further escalate and reach up to Rs 23,95,195 crore (USD 300 billion) by the year 2026.
  3. A significant milestone has been achieved in the mobile handset segment, where India has shifted from being an importer to an exporter. Currently, 99.2% of mobile handsets used in India are domestically manufactured.
  4. In FY 2022-23, India exported mobile phones worth USD 11.1 billion, demonstrating its emergence as a mobile phone exporting nation.
  5. In contrast, in 2014-15, India was predominantly a mobile phone importing country, with approximately 74% of mobile phones sold being imported.
  6. The electronics manufacturing sector has contributed to the creation of around 2.5 million (25 lakh) direct and indirect jobs. It is anticipated that this figure will grow substantially to reach 10 million (1 crore) jobs by 2025-26 based on industry estimates.
