SpiceJet comeback continues, market share cross 6% from 3.5% in June

  1. SpiceJet’s domestic market share increased to 6.2% in November following a decline earlier in 2023.
  2. Despite recent growth, SpiceJet has not yet reached its peak market share of 7.3% recorded in January.
  3. India’s overall domestic air passenger traffic rose by 9% to over 1.27 crore in November.
  4. IndiGo, the largest carrier in India, experienced a slight decrease in market share from 62.6% in October to 61.8% in November.
  5. Air India’s market share remained steady at 10.5%, while Vistara saw a minor dip from 9.7% in October to 9.4% in November.
  6. AIX Connect (formerly Air Asia India) maintained a consistent market share of 6.6% in November.
  7. The Tata Group-owned airlines together, including Air India and Vistara, hold a cumulative market share of 26.5%.
  8. IndiGo and Tata Group airlines collectively dominate the domestic aviation market with a combined market share of 88.3%.
  9. Akasa Air’s market share remained steady at 4.2% since August, although it initially surpassed SpiceJet’s share in June before experiencing a decline due to flight cancellations in August caused by pilot resignations.
