Vedanta donated ₹155 cr to political parties through election bonds in FY24 : Report

  1. Vedanta Limited approved a ₹200 crore contribution to political parties and reinstated an unused limit of ₹57 crore for political contributions, as per a board resolution passed in November.
  2. This resolution was passed just before the 29th tranche of electoral bond sales began and concluded amid assembly elections in several Indian states.
  3. Vedanta has reportedly contributed ₹457 crore to political parties through electoral bonds, with ₹155 crore donated in the current fiscal year alone.
  4. Electoral bonds were introduced in 2018 as an alternative to cash donations, allowing citizens or entities incorporated in India to purchase these bonds for political contributions to eligible registered political parties.
