Funding Taps Run Dry: Startup Funding Tanks To A 5-Year-Low In Jan 2024

  1. Total funding secured by Indian startups in January 2024 reached a five-year low of $512 million, marking a 47% year-on-year decline.
  2. Fintech startups in India commanded $166 million, representing one-third of the total funds allocated in January 2024.
  3. Hyderabad surpassed Delhi NCR to become the second spot in terms of top startup hubs, securing a total funding of $82 million, primarily driven by Vivifi India’s $75 million funding round.
  4. Despite initial optimism among startup founders, the funding environment in January remained challenging, with a significant decrease in both total funding amount and the number of deals compared to the previous year.
