The update turns the Chrome side panel into a more closely integrated Claude Cowork experience, with sessions tied to the user’s account rather than a single device.

The change is part of Anthropic’s broader effort to make Claude function as a persistent AI workspace rather than a chatbot confined to one application. Users can begin browser research or an automated task in Chrome and later pick up the same session through Claude’s desktop, web or mobile experience. Chrome Side Panel Becomes a Cowork Session

One of the most important changes is the redesign of the Claude in Chrome side panel as a Claude Cowork session.

Cowork is Anthropic’s agentic workspace for delegating longer-running tasks. Bringing the Chrome experience into that environment means browser activity can become part of a larger workflow instead of remaining isolated inside a browser tab.
