According to the latest World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) data, India recorded a 63 per cent compound annual growth rate in GenAI patent families between 2023 and 2025, maintaining its position among the world’s leading locations for GenAI innovation.
China continues to dominate the global landscape by a substantial margin, with more than 43,000 GenAI patent families published in 2024 and 2025 alone. The United States remains second, while Japan has moved into third place and South Korea ranks fourth. The latest figures show that GenAI patenting is accelerating worldwide as companies move from experimentation with artificial intelligence toward commercial deployment across industries.
