What coverage now means
NSWS provides access to more than 327 central approvals and 3,452 state approvals across 34 States and Union Territories. It also connects company incorporation, startup recognition, foreign-investment approvals and selected industrial licensing processes. The portal routes applications to the responsible authority; it does not replace that authority’s legal decision.
Important integrations
DPIIT says Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum and Industrial Licence processes moved fully to NSWS in October 2025 and March 2026. The Foreign Investment Facilitation Portal is integrated, and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation has connected all 74 licensing modules. These are concrete workflow changes, but integration alone does not prove that decisions became faster.

A credible performance view needs median processing time, department-level service standards, query rounds, abandonment, rejection reasons and the share completed without an offline visit.
One portal can still expose many processes
A common registration form and document repository can reduce duplicate entry, while dashboards make status visible. But every underlying authority retains its own law, prerequisites and fees. Businesses can therefore face a single front door with different back-office timelines. NSWS should publish where the digital handoff succeeds and where applicants still leave the platform.
What businesses should verify
Applicants should treat the Know Your Approvals module as guidance, not legal advice. They still need to confirm the controlling statute, authority, fee, validity and renewal conditions for each approval. They should also save acknowledgements and query responses. A digital workflow improves traceability, but it does not excuse a missed legal requirement.

NSWS has expanded into meaningful national infrastructure for business permissions, with more entities, approvals and integrated processes. The next phase should move beyond volume reporting. Publishing comparable turnaround and outcome data would show whether one digital window is actually reducing compliance time—or simply organising the queue more neatly.
