Correction, 5 October 2026: An earlier version of this article described several advertising capabilities, audience figures and future plans as confirmed. Those details were not established by the available company announcements. This article has been revised to distinguish the announced collaboration from projections and assumptions.
Razorpay says it is working with OpenAI to help Indian businesses advertise on ChatGPT through its Razorpay Engage marketing platform. The collaboration was announced on 5 October 2026, after OpenAI made self-service ChatGPT advertising available in India on 31 August. Razorpay says Engage can help brands prepare product catalogues, launch campaigns and measure results. Neither company has published results showing how well this specific partnership performs.
What Razorpay and OpenAI have confirmed
Razorpay’s ChatGPT Ads landing page describes Razorpay Engage as a partner that audits a brand’s readiness, prepares its catalogue, activates a campaign and refines performance. A company statement published by CXOToday on 5 October says Engage will also help structure product feeds and manage campaigns. It describes an AI agent to assist with creation and ongoing adjustments, with Razorpay staff providing human oversight where judgement is required. These are descriptions of the service offered, not independently measured outcomes.
According to that statement, early participating brands include Fastrack, Traya, Tata Neu, Rivaah by Tanishq, Shaadi.com, Axis Max Life, Tanishq, Palmonas and NMIMS. “Participating” should not be read as proof that each has launched a paid campaign or achieved a specified return. Tanishq’s marketing chief referred to its first ChatGPT ads campaign in the statement; the other brands’ individual campaign status was not detailed.
The Economic Times also reported the collaboration on 5 October, describing catalogue preparation, feed structuring, campaign launches and performance tracking. Its accessible report does not provide independent campaign results. The CXOToday article carries the company’s statement, so it should not be treated as a second independent investigation of Razorpay’s product claims.
What ChatGPT Ads mean for Indian brands
OpenAI said on 31 August that advertisers could purchase ChatGPT ads directly through Ads Manager across India and several other regions. The company says ads use the context of the current conversation and, depending on settings and country, may use broader experience signals. Product feeds, geographic targeting and measurement tools are among the platform capabilities it describes. This does not mean a Razorpay customer can dictate ChatGPT’s answer to a user.
OpenAI says ads are labelled and separate from ChatGPT answers, and advertising does not influence those answers. It also says advertisers do not receive access to private conversations. Its advertising explanation identifies logged-in adults on Free and Go plans as the ad audience; Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education plans are excluded. These are OpenAI’s stated product rules, and they should not be confused with a claim that every Indian ChatGPT user sees ads.
For an Indian merchant, the practical difference is an additional route to set up and manage a campaign in a conversational product. Razorpay offers preparation and operating help, while OpenAI supplies the advertising platform and its policies. The companies have not released a breakdown of Razorpay Engage’s campaign fees, minimum spend, traffic, conversions or return on investment for this collaboration. Businesses should ask for those terms and measurement definitions before comparing the channel with existing advertising spend.
What remains unconfirmed
The announcements do not establish that Razorpay automatically imports feeds from Shopify or Magento, changes bids in real time, or connects every ad to Razorpay Checkout. They do not disclose a verified Indian audience figure for this partnership, a ₹725 daily minimum specific to Razorpay Engage, or a timetable for in-chat checkout linked to these ads. Those descriptions appeared in an earlier version of this article and have been removed. OpenAI’s separate advertising and commerce products should not be presented as one completed integration.
The 5 October news is a business-to-business distribution and campaign-management arrangement. It is distinct from Razorpay’s 2025 pilot on agentic UPI payments and its April 2026 Codex payments announcement. Those earlier efforts provide context for the relationship, but they do not prove that a consumer can currently complete a purchase from a Razorpay-managed ChatGPT ad without leaving a conversation.
What to watch: Whether Razorpay publishes a clear service description and pricing, whether the participating brands confirm live campaigns, and whether independently verifiable results become available. Until then, any performance or adoption claim should be attributed to the company rather than stated as a measured market outcome.
