Relativity aiR is the central development. Relativity aiR is now the name of the legal-data platform previously called RelativityOne. Relativity announced the change on September 16, saying it unifies the cloud platform and its agentic AI tools; independent legal-technology outlet LawSites and Pivot News separately confirmed that this is a platform rename, not a newly launched replacement system.
Relativity aiR: what changed
| Former name | RelativityOne | Relativity |
|---|---|---|
| New name | Relativity aiR | Relativity; LawSites |
| Pricing | Agentic tools included for customers on the 2026 pricing plan | Relativity; Pivot News |
| Scope | Litigation, investigations, regulatory work and data-breach response | Relativity |
The distinction matters for buyers. Relativity aiR had previously referred to a suite of AI capabilities inside RelativityOne. By applying the name to the entire platform, Relativity is making AI part of the core product identity and procurement conversation rather than an optional layer that can be evaluated in isolation.
Relativity says customers on its 2026 pricing plan receive every agentic tool as part of the platform. That can simplify licensing, but inclusion does not equal automatic approval for every matter. A legal department may permit summarisation in one investigation while prohibiting generative analysis for privileged, export-controlled or especially sensitive material.
The company describes Relativity aiR as both a system of record and a system of action. It says the platform supports litigation, internal investigations, regulatory inquiries, data-breach responses and other legal-data work. More than half of new workspaces created this year serve matters beyond litigation, according to the company; that figure should be treated as Relativity's own usage statement rather than an independently audited market measure.
The governance consequence is a wider control surface. Teams should define which models and agents are allowed, what data they may retrieve, when outputs require a qualified reviewer and how prompts, sources and revisions are retained. The legal standard is not whether an answer sounds useful, but whether the work product can be traced, challenged and reproduced.
For Indian law firms and corporate legal teams, the rebrand is a reminder to separate platform procurement from matter approval. Cross-border discovery may involve personal data, contractual secrecy and sector rules. Administrators need region-aware storage settings, least-privilege access and a documented route for clients to restrict AI use without breaking the underlying review workflow.
Relativity aiR therefore signals product direction more than a one-day feature release. The operational question is whether the vendor's unified experience makes controls easier to apply across ingestion, review and drafting. Buyers should test those controls in a representative matter before treating bundled agentic functions as routine infrastructure.
A procurement test should compare the renamed platform's default settings with the organisation's existing matter template. Administrators should confirm that disabling an agent does not disable ordinary search or review, and that exports clearly distinguish source documents, machine-generated analysis and human-approved work product.
