Saregama India increased its advertising and promotional expenditure by 13% quarter-on-quarter to ₹13.79 crore in the second quarter of FY27, reflecting continued investment in marketing its entertainment portfolio, music catalogue and expanding artist-management business. The increase comes as the company strengthens its presence across music, digital content and live entertainment.
The higher spending coincided with strong financial growth during the July–September quarter. Saregama reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹314.30 crore, while profit after tax reached ₹64.17 crore. The results indicate that the company’s entertainment business is expanding across multiple revenue streams, even as it manages the costs associated with content acquisition, promotion and audience development.
Saregama Advertising Expenditure Increases 13%
Saregama’s advertising spending reached ₹13.79 crore in Q2 FY27, representing a 13% increase compared with the previous quarter.
Advertising and promotional expenditure is an important part of the company’s strategy because its business depends on building awareness and generating engagement around music releases, artists, entertainment properties and consumer products.
The company operates across several segments, including music licensing, artist management, video content, live events and retail products such as Carvaan.
Marketing campaigns can help Saregama increase the visibility of new music releases, promote managed artists, attract audiences to live performances and strengthen the commercial value of its entertainment intellectual property.
The quarterly increase in advertising expenditure also comes as the company expands its entertainment portfolio beyond its traditional music catalogue business.
Revenue Rises to ₹314.30 Crore in Q2 FY27
Saregama reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹314.30 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with ₹230.03 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
This represents year-on-year growth of approximately 36.6%.
Revenue also increased from ₹263.60 crore in Q1 FY27, marking quarter-on-quarter growth of approximately 19.2%.
The company’s total income reached ₹319.47 crore during the September quarter, compared with ₹241.50 crore a year earlier.
| Financial metric | Q2 FY27 | Year-on-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue from operations | ₹314.30 crore | +36.6% |
| Total income | ₹319.47 crore | +32.3% |
| Profit before tax | ₹85.77 crore | +42.7% |
| Profit after tax | ₹64.17 crore | +46.4% |
The growth reflects the company’s expanding entertainment portfolio, which includes music licensing, artist management and live events, alongside its video and digital content operations.
Net Profit Increases 46.4%
Saregama’s consolidated profit after tax increased to ₹64.17 crore in Q2 FY27 from ₹43.83 crore in Q2 FY26, representing growth of 46.4%.
Compared with the previous quarter, net profit increased from ₹51.88 crore, translating into quarter-on-quarter growth of approximately 23.7%.
Profit before tax also improved to ₹85.77 crore, up 42.7% from ₹60.10 crore in the year-earlier quarter.
The increase in profitability alongside higher revenue indicates that the company has been able to expand its business while improving its reported earnings.
However, advertising expenditure is only one part of the company’s overall cost structure. Content acquisition, royalty payments, employee expenses, production and distribution costs also influence profitability.
Music Remains Central to Saregama’s Business
Music remains one of Saregama’s most important business segments.
The company owns and manages a large catalogue of film and non-film music, generating revenue through licensing arrangements with streaming platforms, television broadcasters, film producers and other commercial users.
Its catalogue provides an important advantage because existing music rights can generate revenue across multiple platforms and distribution formats.
Saregama is also expanding its artist-management business. The company works with musicians and performers to develop their digital presence, commercial partnerships and live-event opportunities.
In Q1 FY27, Saregama reported music revenue of ₹230.6 crore, including licensing, artist management and retail activities. The company also added 33 artists to its roster during that quarter, taking the total to 309 artists with a combined digital reach of more than 440 million.
The company’s Q2 FY27 business update highlighted further expansion of its artist roster and digital audience.
Live Events and Brand Partnerships Expand Revenue Opportunities
Saregama is also developing its live entertainment business through concerts, music festivals, devotional performances and stand-up comedy events.
Live events offer the company another way to monetise its music catalogue and artist relationships. They also create opportunities to work with brands seeking access to audiences through entertainment-led marketing campaigns.
During Q1 FY27, the company collaborated with brands including Visa, Hindustan Unilever, Myntra, Godrej and Bharat Matrimony for integrated campaigns using its entertainment properties.
Such partnerships allow brands to associate with music and artists rather than relying exclusively on conventional advertising formats.
The expansion of live events and artist management also supports Saregama’s broader strategy of building an integrated entertainment business around its intellectual property.
Advertising Spending Reflects Competition for Audience Attention
The Indian music and digital entertainment market has become increasingly competitive, with streaming services, social media platforms and independent content creators competing for audience engagement.
For music companies, releasing content is no longer sufficient. They must also invest in distribution, promotion and partnerships to ensure that new releases reach audiences.
Advertising expenditure can support these efforts by increasing awareness of music releases, strengthening artist visibility and promoting live performances.
However, higher marketing expenditure does not automatically translate into higher revenue. The commercial outcome depends on audience engagement, licensing demand, subscription activity, brand partnerships and the long-term value generated by the content.
For Saregama, maintaining a balance between promotional spending and monetisation will be important as it expands into newer entertainment categories.
The Bigger Picture
Saregama’s higher advertising expenditure reflects the changing economics of India’s entertainment industry. Music companies are increasingly building businesses that combine intellectual property ownership, artist management, digital distribution, live events and brand partnerships.
This approach creates multiple opportunities to generate revenue from the same music catalogue and artist relationships. It also requires investment in marketing, technology, content acquisition and audience development.
The company’s Q2 FY27 results show that revenue and profit increased alongside its expansion efforts. However, investors will need to monitor whether higher promotional spending produces sustainable growth and whether newer business segments can maintain healthy margins.
Looking Ahead
Saregama is entering the next phase of its growth strategy with an expanding music catalogue, a larger artist roster and increasing activity across live entertainment and brand partnerships. Its advertising expenditure is likely to remain an important tool for building awareness and supporting monetisation across these businesses. The company’s ability to convert marketing investments into licensing revenue, audience engagement and commercial partnerships will be important.
The next few quarters will show whether Saregama can sustain its revenue growth while managing content and promotional costs. With Q2 FY27 revenue reaching ₹314.30 crore and net profit rising 46.4% year-on-year, the company has reported a strong financial quarter. Maintaining this performance while improving the returns generated by its marketing expenditure will be a key factor in its longer-term growth.
