sourceCost Structure
In its early hyper-growth years OYO locked in hotel owners with fixed monthly 'minimum guarantee' payouts regardless of actual occupancy, meaning OYO itself absorbed the vacancy/demand risk on guaranteed rooms while also discounting rooms to drive bookings. Its DRHP discloses this arrangement peaked at 14.7% of hotels before being wound down to near-zero as OYO shifted partners to a pure revenue-share, asset-light model — by March 2021, 99.9% of storefronts carried no MG or fixed-payout contract.
sourcePeople costs are OYO's largest controllable cost line. As part of the drive to its first-ever annual profit, employee benefit expenses were nearly halved in FY24, with employee stock-option (ESOP) charges alone falling from Rs 363 Cr in FY23 to Rs 107 Cr in FY24 and total employee costs shrinking from ~28% of revenue to ~14% of revenue.
sourceCustomer-acquisition/demand-generation marketing is a recurring variable cost that OYO throttles up and down with its financial cycle — after cutting ad spend to reach profitability in FY24, parent entity PRISM ramped it back up sharply ahead of its IPO, roughly doubling advertising and sales-promotion expenditure in the Apr–Dec 2025 (FY26) period versus the year-ago period.
sourceInterest on OYO's roughly $660M term loan (raised in FY22 from a syndicate of lenders) is a large fixed cost that moved opposite to most other line items — rising even as OYO cut staff and marketing costs elsewhere. It remains significant enough that the current IPO DRHP earmarks nearly 75% of fresh-issue proceeds (~Rs 4,987.5 Cr) specifically to repay this subsidiary-level borrowing.
