Amazon has replaced Grubhub with Uber Eats as its restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States, bringing food ordering directly into Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app. Announced on November 5, 2026, the partnership gives eligible Prime subscribers a $0 delivery fee on qualifying restaurant orders of $25 or more, without requiring a separate Uber account.

The move ends a commercial relationship with Grubhub that began in 2022 and became a permanent Prime membership benefit in 2024. By integrating Uber Eats into its shopping ecosystem, Amazon is adding another everyday service to Prime while giving Uber access to a large base of potential customers. The change also reflects Amazon’s preference for using established delivery partners rather than operating its own restaurant delivery network.

Amazon Replaces Grubhub With Uber Eats

Under the new agreement, Uber Eats becomes Amazon Prime’s official restaurant delivery partner in the US. Customers can browse participating restaurants and place orders directly through Amazon’s website or mobile shopping application.

Prime members do not need to download the Uber Eats app, create an Uber account or enter separate login credentials. They can use their existing Amazon account and saved payment methods to complete orders.

Amazon will handle the shopping experience and send order-status notifications through email and push notifications. Uber Eats will manage the restaurant delivery service and provide the final order confirmation.

The benefit is available across nearly 10,000 US cities and towns, covering hundreds of thousands of restaurants through Uber Eats’ network.

The partnership includes major restaurant chains such as Chipotle, Wingstop and Sweetgreen, alongside regional restaurants and independent food businesses.

What Prime Members Get From the New Partnership

The central benefit is the removal of delivery fees on eligible orders worth at least $25.

The introductory promotion offers $20 off each of the first two eligible orders of $25 or more, provided customers place them within the first 14 days.

Prime Visa cardholders can also earn 5% back on Uber Eats orders through December 5, 2026, under the announced promotion.

Amazon estimates that the delivery-fee benefit and exclusive promotions could save eligible members more than $175 annually. This is a company estimate based on typical ordering behaviour and promotional assumptions, not a guaranteed saving for every subscriber.

There are also limitations. The $25 minimum applies to qualifying orders, and the removal of the delivery fee does not necessarily eliminate other charges. Service fees, taxes, tips and possible menu-price differences can still affect the final bill.

Why Amazon Ended Its Grubhub Partnership

Amazon’s relationship with Grubhub began in 2022, when the companies introduced a benefit allowing eligible Prime members to access Grubhub+ without paying its usual subscription fee.

In 2024, Amazon expanded the arrangement and made the Grubhub+ membership an ongoing Prime benefit. Customers could also order restaurant food through Amazon’s platform.

The relationship included a financial component. Amazon had negotiated a performance-based agreement with Grubhub’s former owner, Just Eat Takeaway.com, that provided the possibility of receiving additional equity through warrants.

However, Just Eat Takeaway announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder in 2024. Amazon subsequently elected to cash out its outstanding exercisable warrants in December 2024, according to Just Eat Takeaway’s annual report.

Despite the ownership change, the commercial partnership continued until November 5, 2026.

Amazon said it regularly evaluates third-party benefits offered through Prime and identified an opportunity to provide a better restaurant delivery experience through Uber Eats.

The new arrangement gives Amazon access to a broader restaurant delivery network while allowing it to avoid building and maintaining a separate restaurant logistics operation.

Why Uber Eats Benefits From the Deal

For Uber, the partnership provides an additional distribution channel to reach Amazon Prime subscribers.

Instead of relying exclusively on customers who already use the Uber Eats app, the company can now attract restaurant orders through one of the largest online shopping platforms.

The arrangement could help Uber increase order volumes, improve restaurant discovery and attract customers who may not have previously used its food delivery service.

It also strengthens Uber Eats’ position in the competitive US food delivery market, where DoorDash remains a major rival.

The partnership could create additional value for restaurants as well. Participating businesses gain exposure to Amazon’s customer base, potentially generating orders from consumers who discover them while shopping on Amazon.

However, increased order volume does not automatically translate into higher profits. Delivery commissions, promotional costs, restaurant margins and driver-related expenses will continue to influence the economics of the business.

Amazon’s Strategy: Make Prime More Valuable

Amazon Prime is built around a subscription model that combines multiple services under a recurring membership fee.

Free shipping, faster deliveries, entertainment, digital services and exclusive shopping offers are designed to encourage customers to remain subscribers and use Amazon more frequently.

Restaurant delivery adds another everyday service to this ecosystem.

The strategy is particularly relevant because subscription businesses need to demonstrate continuing value to justify recurring fees. Adding services that customers use regularly can improve engagement and make membership cancellation less attractive.

Amazon has also been expanding the role of its shopping application beyond traditional product purchases. Integrating restaurant ordering creates another reason for customers to open the app, potentially increasing the opportunities for cross-selling groceries and other products.

The company previously operated its own Amazon Restaurants service, but shut it down in 2019. The new Uber Eats partnership represents a return to restaurant ordering through a third-party delivery provider rather than a revival of its former in-house service.

What Happens to Grubhub and Existing Prime Members?

The end of the agreement means Prime members will lose access to the Grubhub+ benefit provided through Amazon.

Grubhub’s commercial arrangement with Amazon ended on November 5, according to reporting by TechCrunch.

For Grubhub, the change removes a distribution partnership that helped expose its service to Amazon’s large customer base. The company will need to continue competing for customers through its own platform and other partnerships.

Existing Grubhub customers should distinguish between the end of the Amazon Prime benefit and the status of their separate Grubhub accounts or subscriptions. The announcement concerns the Amazon partnership; it does not mean Grubhub’s overall restaurant delivery service is shutting down.

The Uber Eats benefit, meanwhile, is currently announced for US Prime members. Amazon has not announced an equivalent rollout for India or other international markets.

The Bigger Picture

Amazon’s decision demonstrates how large technology platforms are increasingly using partnerships to expand the value of their subscription ecosystems.

For Amazon, Uber Eats provides access to restaurant delivery without the expense of building an independent network. For Uber, the agreement creates another route to customers and potentially increases order volumes.

The change also illustrates the importance of distribution in the food delivery industry. Access to customers through an established platform can be valuable, particularly when companies are competing for repeat orders and subscription loyalty.

However, the long-term success of the partnership will depend on whether the new benefit generates sustained customer engagement, profitable orders and meaningful value for restaurants and delivery partners.

Looking Ahead

Amazon and Uber will now need to demonstrate that integrating restaurant delivery into the shopping experience can increase Prime engagement and generate additional orders. The introductory discounts may encourage customers to try the service, but repeat usage will depend on restaurant selection, delivery reliability, pricing and the overall ordering experience.

For Grubhub, losing the Amazon partnership creates a challenge in maintaining customer reach through alternative channels. For Uber Eats, the deal offers access to a new customer pipeline, but its financial impact will depend on order frequency, delivery economics and the ability to retain customers after promotional offers expire.
