The dedicated key is more than a shortcut. ZTE says the fingerprint-enabled control can invoke the assistant while linking an action to an authenticated user. That can reduce friction, but it also raises the standard for permission design because the assistant is intended to execute tasks across applications rather than merely answer questions.
ZTE describes four product goals: understand natural speech, complete actions, remember user preferences and remain secure. Real-time voice can be interrupted during a conversation, while the consumer version of Doubao is supposed to coordinate multi-step actions. The announcement does not provide an independent task-success rate, so those capabilities should be treated as product claims until sustained testing is available.
Caixin independently reported that the phone went on sale at RMB 5,499 after subsidies and identified it as Nubia’s second-generation AI-native Doubao handset. TechNode reported the RMB 5,999 list price and the same core launch. The agreement across the official record and two independent reports clears the routine product-launch gate without relying on leaked specifications.
The hardware is designed to keep an assistant active through a full day. Nubia lists a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, LPDDR5X memory reaching 10,667 Mbps and a 7,100mAh battery. Charging is rated at 90 watts wired and 50 watts wireless. The display is a 6.78-inch panel with a variable refresh rate up to 144Hz.
The camera system combines a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto. Those specifications matter to the AI proposition because an agentic phone can use camera input as context, but ZTE has not published evidence that higher sensor resolution improves action reliability.
Permission visibility is the decisive issue. A useful agent should show which app it will open, what data it will read, which irreversible step requires confirmation and how a user can undo the result. A fingerprint on the launch key authenticates invocation; it does not automatically make every downstream action safe.
The launch also tests a different mobile distribution model. ByteDance gains a deeper system surface than a downloadable assistant normally receives, while Nubia gets an AI layer that can differentiate similar flagship hardware. That partnership can accelerate features but makes update ownership, data retention and accountability important purchasing questions.
