PhonePe Invest, the investment and stockbroking platform operated by PhonePe, recorded an 80% increase in platform registrations and a 50% rise in new customer additions during October 2026. The growth followed the company’s decision to rebrand its Share.Market platform as PhonePe Invest and introduce new tools designed to simplify investing and portfolio management.

The company is attempting to move beyond basic stock trading and build a broader wealth-management platform for retail investors. Its latest offering includes stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), initial public offerings (IPOs), mutual funds and futures and options (F&O), alongside a new Portfolio Optimiser tool. The feature allows investors to review holdings across multiple demat accounts and receive research-backed insights about portfolio diversification and performance.

PhonePe Invest Sees Strong Growth After Rebranding

PhonePe announced the transition from Share.Market to PhonePe Invest on October 19, 2026.

The rebranding brings the company’s investment and wealth offerings under the PhonePe identity, connecting them more closely with its wider financial services ecosystem.

According to the company, platform registrations increased by 80% in October, while new customer additions rose by 50%.

The growth comes shortly after the rebranding and introduction of new investment tools. However, PhonePe has not disclosed the absolute number of new registrations or customers added during the month.

This means the reported growth rates indicate an increase in customer acquisition but do not reveal the platform’s total active investor base.

Vijay Ajmera, Head of Business at PhonePe Invest, said the company wants to build an investment experience that goes beyond executing transactions and helps users understand, evaluate and manage their portfolios.

Portfolio Optimiser Is Driving the Platform’s New Strategy

One of the major additions behind the rebranding is Portfolio Optimiser, a portfolio intelligence tool designed to support investors at different stages of their investment journey.

The product brings three capabilities together: Build, Review and Optimise.

Build: The feature is designed to help beginners understand portfolio construction and begin investing with a more structured approach.

Review: Investors can import holdings from multiple demat accounts and view their investments in one place. The platform provides information about portfolio health, asset allocation, sector exposure and concentration risks.

Optimise: The tool analyses portfolio holdings and provides research-backed insights to help investors identify underperforming assets and potential opportunities to improve diversification.

The system also offers Hold, Monitor and Sell ratings to help investors evaluate individual holdings.

PhonePe says users can import investments held across different demat accounts, allowing them to examine their overall portfolio rather than only the assets purchased through PhonePe Invest.

The company has positioned this feature as a way to make investment research and portfolio analysis more accessible to retail investors.

PhonePe Wants to Move Beyond Stock Trading

The rebranding reflects a broader shift in PhonePe’s investment strategy.

The company previously operated Share.Market primarily as a platform for users interested in stock trading and market investments. With PhonePe Invest, it wants to attract a wider audience, including people who are beginning their wealth-creation journey.

The strategy is based on the gap between basic savings products and direct stock-market investing.

Many consumers already use financial applications for mutual funds, systematic investment plans, fixed deposits and digital gold. However, building and managing a diversified equity portfolio can be more complicated.

PhonePe wants to address this gap by combining investment products with research tools and portfolio-management features.

The company also plans to use its large payments-app ecosystem to introduce investment opportunities to customers who may already be familiar with its financial services.

However, PhonePe has indicated that its customer acquisition strategy will not depend exclusively on cross-selling to existing payments users.

Stocks, Mutual Funds, ETFs and IPOs Available on the Platform

PhonePe Invest offers multiple investment products through its platform.

Investment productPurpose
StocksDirect investment in listed companies
Mutual fundsProfessionally managed investment portfolios
ETFsFunds traded on stock exchanges
IPOsApplications for newly listed companies
Futures and optionsExchange-traded derivative contracts

The range allows the platform to target both long-term investors and more active market participants.

However, these products carry different levels of risk. Futures and options, in particular, involve substantial risks and may not be suitable for inexperienced investors.

PhonePe’s newer positioning places greater emphasis on portfolio construction, diversification and research rather than simply increasing the number of transactions.

AI and Research Tools Could Strengthen PhonePe’s Wealth Business

PhonePe is also exploring the use of artificial intelligence to improve investment research and financial insights.

In an October interview with Moneycontrol, company co-founder and chief product and technology officer Rahul Chari explained that AI is helping the company’s research team develop and test analytical models.

The company’s research team has fewer than six members, according to the interview. AI tools are being used to support the development and refinement of analytical models for stocks and mutual funds.

One example is its CRISP model, which evaluates mutual funds across five factors and generates a score.

The broader idea is to use technology to make research-backed insights available to a larger number of investors without requiring every customer to depend on traditional personalised financial advisory services.

However, AI-generated investment analysis is not a guarantee of returns. Investors still need to consider market risks, company fundamentals, investment objectives and their own financial circumstances.

PhonePe Is Competing in India’s Growing Wealth-Tech Market

PhonePe’s expansion comes as India’s wealth-management and investment technology market attracts competition from established stockbrokers, fintech companies and financial services platforms.

Companies such as Groww and Zerodha have built large businesses around digital investment access and stock-market participation.

PhonePe has a different starting advantage: its large payments ecosystem.

According to the company’s September 2026 corporate statistics, PhonePe had approximately 730 million lifetime registered users and more than 50 million lifetime registered merchants. It also processed around 11 billion customer transactions during September.

These figures demonstrate the scale of the company’s payments business, although they should not be confused with the number of potential active investors.

The company wants to use its existing consumer reach to expand into wealth products, bringing users from everyday digital payments and savings into more advanced investment services.

Its challenge will be converting that reach into sustained investment activity while building trust in its research tools and portfolio recommendations.

The Bigger Picture

PhonePe’s latest growth figures highlight how fintech companies are moving beyond payments and basic financial products towards broader wealth-management services.

The next phase of competition may not depend only on offering low-cost stock transactions. Platforms are increasingly trying to help customers understand their investments, manage diversification and make more informed financial decisions.

PhonePe’s Portfolio Optimiser reflects this shift from transaction-focused investing towards portfolio management. Its large existing payments ecosystem gives it a potential customer-acquisition channel, but long-term success will depend on investor retention, product quality and the reliability of its research capabilities.

Looking Ahead

PhonePe will need to demonstrate that the October increase in registrations translates into sustained activity and a growing base of long-term investors. The number of active customers, assets held on the platform and recurring investment activity will be important indicators of whether the rebranding is producing durable business growth.

The company is also expected to expand its investment tools as it builds out PhonePe Invest. If it can combine accessible investment products with useful research and portfolio-management features, it could strengthen its position in India’s competitive wealth-tech market.
