Tesla Grok AI is rolling out to vehicles in the UK and eight European markets through their infotainment systems.

Tesla is adding Grok AI to cars in the UK and Europe, expanding the xAI chatbot beyond its earlier in-car rollout. Tesla Europe said the assistant would be available through vehicle infotainment systems in the UK and eight other European markets.

The rollout turns Grok into a voice-accessible companion inside supported Tesla vehicles. Drivers can ask general questions and hold conversations without reaching for a phone, although the assistant does not control safety-critical vehicle functions.

Where Tesla Is Rolling Out Grok

The expansion covers the United Kingdom and eight European markets. Availability depends on the vehicle, software version and connectivity. Tesla had already introduced Grok in cars in North America before widening access in Europe.

The feature arrives as carmakers race to bring generative AI into dashboards. Volvo, for example, has announced a Gemini-based assistant for the EX60. Tesla’s choice of Grok also deepens the commercial links among companies controlled by Elon Musk.

Why the Grok Rollout Matters for Tesla

Europe is a difficult market for Tesla. Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association showed Tesla’s European electric-vehicle sales fell 27% in 2025, even as battery-electric vehicles increased their overall share of the market. Lower-priced Chinese rivals, especially BYD, have added competitive pressure.

Adding a conversational assistant gives Tesla a visible software feature that can be delivered to existing cars through an update. It also gives xAI access to another distribution channel at a time when automakers are trying to make infotainment systems more useful and differentiated.

Safety and Regulatory Questions

The European rollout is taking place while Grok faces scrutiny from regulators in the EU, UK, Ireland and other markets. Investigations have focused on harmful and non-consensual synthetic images, hate speech and the adequacy of platform safeguards.

There is also a separate road-safety issue. Even a hands-free chatbot can add cognitive distraction while a person is driving. Researchers have called for practical testing of how in-car AI changes driver attention, what information drivers request and how reliably assistants answer.

Tesla and xAI have not publicly detailed a default child-safety mode for Grok in vehicles. That question matters because an in-car assistant may be used by passengers as well as drivers.
