Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm of Reliance Industries, is expanding its biscuit business with nine new products and 28 stock-keeping units (SKUs) under its Independence brand. The expanded portfolio is available across Tamil Nadu from November 2, with prices starting at ₹5, as the company looks to strengthen its position in the state’s competitive biscuit market.

The launch covers everyday biscuits, milk-based products, cream biscuits and chocolate-flavoured offerings, with pack sizes designed for different consumption occasions and budgets. RCPL is also using a partnership with Ajith Kumar Racing to promote Independence Power Up, one of the leading products in the new range. The expansion is supported by increased production capacity and a wider distribution strategy.

Nine New Independence Biscuit Products

The latest launch adds variety to RCPL’s Independence biscuit portfolio, which is positioned around affordable products for everyday consumption as well as more indulgent occasions.

The nine products include:

ProductPositioning
Independence Power UpMilk, glucose and protein biscuit
Independence Butter BlissButter-flavoured biscuit
Independence Milky PowerMilk-based biscuit
Independence Marie PrimeMarie-style biscuit
Independence Coco Vanilla & ChocolateCocoa, vanilla and chocolate flavours
Independence CremYum OrangeOrange cream biscuit
Independence CremYum ChocoChocolate cream biscuit
Independence Coco BourbonChocolate bourbon-style biscuit
Independence Glucose BoostGlucose biscuit

The portfolio is led by Independence Power Up and Independence Milky Power. Power Up is particularly notable because it combines milk, glucose and protein in a single biscuit, giving RCPL a differentiated product proposition within the everyday biscuit category.

The company is attempting to serve multiple consumer preferences through one brand rather than relying on a narrow product range. Its offerings cover traditional biscuit formats, cream-filled varieties and products positioned around milk and glucose.

Prices Start at ₹5

Affordable pricing is central to the launch. RCPL is introducing different pack sizes to attract consumers who want to try the products as well as households purchasing biscuits in larger quantities.

Pack categoryPrice
Trial packs₹5
Sharing packs₹10
Larger home packs₹40–₹125

The ₹5 entry price gives consumers a relatively low-cost way to sample the new products. The ₹10 packs target sharing and smaller purchase occasions, while the larger packs are aimed at household consumption.

This pricing structure also gives the company an opportunity to reach consumers across different spending levels. In a frequently purchased category such as biscuits, small packs can help brands gain visibility at neighbourhood retail outlets and encourage trial among price-conscious buyers.

However, the company has not disclosed product-wise sales targets, expected market share gains or revenue projections for the new range.

Tamil Nadu Is the First Focus Market

The expanded portfolio is being rolled out across Tamil Nadu from November 2, 2026. RCPL has identified the state as an important market for its biscuit business and said increased production capacity will support its expansion plans.

The company intends to make the products available through several distribution channels:

  • General trade outlets
  • National and regional modern retail stores
  • E-commerce platforms
  • Reliance Retail stores
  • Wholesale channels

Using multiple channels could help RCPL reach consumers across traditional neighbourhood shops, organised retail and online platforms.

The Tamil Nadu launch also gives the company an opportunity to build product awareness and distribution before considering expansion into additional markets. However, the announcement does not confirm a nationwide rollout or provide a timeline for launches in other states.

RCPL Director T Krishnakumar said the company wants to expand its portfolio to address changing consumer preferences while building scale. He also highlighted the familiarity of milk biscuits in Indian households and described Power Up as an extension of that category through a combination of milk, glucose and protein.

Ajith Kumar Racing Partnership to Support Brand Visibility

RCPL is collaborating with Ajith Kumar Racing as part of the launch of Independence Power Up. The association connects the product with motorsport and is intended to improve brand visibility and consumer awareness in Tamil Nadu.

The partnership gives the company a regional marketing platform for a product it is positioning differently from conventional everyday biscuits. Motorsport associations can help brands build recognition beyond traditional advertising, particularly when the partnership has visibility among local audiences.

For RCPL, the collaboration forms part of a wider strategy combining product expansion, accessible pricing and brand promotion. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the association or specific marketing expenditure.

Reliance’s Wider Strategy in the Biscuit Market

The biscuit launch is part of RCPL’s broader effort to build its FMCG business through established and new consumer brands. Its strategy includes products across price points and categories, with distribution scale playing an important role.

The company is pursuing a two-pronged approach in biscuits. Its Independence brand is intended to build scale through a broad portfolio of everyday and indulgent products. Maliban, its joint venture partner and a Sri Lankan biscuit maker, brings experience and a separate proposition for differentiated and premium products.

The two-brand approach allows RCPL to address different consumer segments rather than depending on a single brand to cover every price point and preference.

The Indian biscuit market includes established national players, regional manufacturers and numerous smaller brands. Companies compete through pricing, product variety, distribution, advertising and the ability to maintain consistent quality. In this environment, a large product portfolio alone does not guarantee market share gains.

RCPL will need to ensure that its new variants achieve sufficient retail availability, repeat purchases and consumer acceptance. Its increased production capacity could support wider distribution, but actual performance will depend on demand and execution.

The Bigger Picture

Reliance’s latest biscuit expansion illustrates how large consumer companies are using affordable pricing and product variety to compete in frequently purchased food categories. The ₹5 entry point is designed to encourage trial, while the wider range allows RCPL to target different consumption occasions under the Independence brand.

The launch also reflects the importance of distribution in India’s FMCG market. Reliance can use its retail presence alongside general trade, wholesale and online channels to make the products accessible. If the company can translate that reach into repeat purchases, the expanded portfolio could strengthen its position in biscuits. However, the announcement provides no sales data yet to measure the commercial impact.

Looking Ahead

The immediate focus for RCPL will be building distribution and consumer awareness across Tamil Nadu. The performance of Power Up, Milky Power and the other new variants will help indicate whether the expanded range can attract customers in a market with established biscuit brands and strong price competition.

The next important developments to watch will be sales traction, retail availability and any expansion into other states. For now, the launch marks a broader push by Reliance Consumer Products to build its Independence brand through affordable packs, product innovation and regional marketing partnerships.
